Learning The “Secrets” of
Learn About Crude Oil
When people think of oil, their minds immediately race to fuel for cars, motorbikes, planes, boats, and other motor vehicles. However, there is more to crude oil that many people realize. Crude oil is a liquid fuel source that is located underground. Crude oil is mainly extracted through a process known as drilling. Crude oil is used in a lot of industries, from the transport industry all the way to the plastics manufacturing industry. Crude oil is made up of several components. These components are hydrocarbons, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur, and metals such as iron, vanadium, copper, and nickel. You may hear some people refer to crude oil as a fossil fuel, and they are right to do so because crude oil came into existence millions of years ago. It is fossil fuel because it came to be when millions of years ago plankton and algae fell into the ocean, were then mixed with mud, and covered with sediment for many years. It is important to note that the process of crude oil creation took millions of years from when the algae and plankton fell into the ocean. This, therefore, means that crude oil is a non-renewable source of energy since there is no way of getting more when the current world’s supply is finished. However, there is nothing to worry about because researchers say that we are still a long way from getting close to finishing the current supply. Moreover, new oil drilling sites are being discovered every day.
There are a lot of benefits to crude oil. One of them is that it is used to manufacture plastics. This is the most widespread use of crude oil, because you can find plastics virtually everywhere. Almost all products today are either made of plastic, or are packaged with something that is made of plastic. Plastic is used to manufacture many items, from shoes, to electronics, to bumpers, and many more items that we depend on in our day to day lives. The far-reaching impact of plastics in society today makes their manufacture one of the most important benefits of crude oil. The fashion industry also relies on crude oil in the production of clothing. Crude oil is used in the manufacture of nylon, polyester, and rayon, all of which are materials used in clothes production. Crude oil also helps in the manufacture of hangers, since they are made stronger by petroleum-based resins.
Crude oil is also used in insulation. A lot of people do not know this, but the insulation that keeps heat from escaping or entering homes is made of petroleum, which is a by-product of crude oil. You also find a lot of kitchen items such as fridges, and non-stick pots and pans having petroleum as a component in their production. This means that almost everybody today relies on crude oil for one thing or the other. Because of the many uses of crude oil today, a rise in its prices is reflected in almost all industries.
